Spring Break [cont...]

Ok so the next morning, it was a Thursday. We were all split into groups of 9 or 10.
In my group there was 4 of my friends, 3 cool Asian chicks, and 1 Military Chief acting lady (you'll soon see why I say that). Alright so all the good jobs had already been taken so the only thing they could find for us to do was sweep up around outside St. Mary's. Cool, no problem....right? WRONG! We get on our gear (facemasks and goggles &c.). Which I didn't wear because I though was over doing it (we're only sweeping!). But any way, we're sweeping and its all good, then the wind starts blowing like crazy! I mean almost constant, non stop. So ya know it's pretty pointless to be sweeping when that stuff you just swept away is blowing right back.
And that sand and dirt was frying in our eyes...well just mine (should have got the goggles.) Well, all of us agree to take a break. And its almost lunch time. Lunch was ,well, interesting. It was rice, and gravy that looked like chow chow...sound gross? It looked gross, and some veggie meat (soy).Only we all ate. It was surprisingly good...to me. After that we went to the bus and just relaxed for a long time. The bus driver said she didn't mind us doing so...so she said. Anyway,
we all pretty much agreed that we didn't want to sweep anymore...that is all of us but Miss Military Chain smoker! So that's when the "shit hit the fan" so to speak.
We where telling her how pointless it was. She started arguing. But she ended up living the bus and sweeping all by herself. And the rest of us decide to sweep and mop the entire 2ND floor...it was so dusty up there and they needed it to be done...it was so windy that the people that were in tents out side had to bring all there stuff inside. So It all worked out. Everyone thanked us for doing so.
Now that Night was crazy...I'll try to make it brief. OK. So someone started reading "Sex Chronicles" out loud. Lord, it was graphic. Whoa! No, but it was all girls and it was fun, Now all of the sudden I see one of the girls looking behind me saying "Who in the hell is that?!". Look back and there's a man standing outside the door behind me! (thank God that door was locked.) Then he began to walk to the open door he walks in and says "Hey Ladies, don't stop because of me."
It was an old black man homeless looking. We asked him if he was lost. He was all like "No. I wanna be right here with yall." WHAT?! Talking about scared!
Finally we got him out and one the girls was like "Did yall see that his pants were unzipped! I think he was [you knowing] at the door when we caught him!" EWWWWWWW. freakin' scary!!! Thank God the boys soon same back from Bourbon street and it was back to "Sex Chronicles" it was even funnier when the boys came back from Bourbon ST. drunk and begain reading it. One line that everyone was rotfl about was "my nipples were so hard they could cut Sheetrock...". But needless to say nobody got much sleep that night.
Last Day Of Work That morning we found out that the Chain smoker had quit our group. So we went with another group to do work in the lower 9Th ward. Finally! We get to do something really useful! We got there and that area was so devastated. Homes were completely gone, nothing left but the stone steps in front on some. This was were the levees "broke". Anyway we cleaned up a house they were turning into a women's shelter. Every 5 mins there was a tour bus coming through...made me sick! Those people could be HELPING and not GAWKING at the destruction! Only 3% of the money made on those tour is given to Katrina Relief. A pity!
I advise anyone reading this to go volunteer...they need the help as much as they need the money.

Alright I'm gonna end here...there's so much more that happened but it's too much to type...so your missing out on [Old guys and Free Chicken and kool-aid, Backstabbing Bus driver, 40 min walk to Bourbon Street, "Huge Ass Beer", Transvestite Club, Unique, Same Old Guys again Buying drinks, Drunken girls, the beads, fight over $100's from the same old guys, Back at St. Mary's, 2 girls from group missing, could have been expelled from school! Same old guys come to St. Mary's to see us! At 3am?!, scary.]

My Spring Break in New Orleans

Well for my spring break I decided to do something selfless for a change. I went with a group of fellow college students to vounteer in New Orleans. It was a loooooong 12 hour or so bus ride with several stops along the way. Upon reaching the New Orleans, I mean as soon as we hit the scene we were in for a RUDE awakening...no not the damage for Hurricane Katrina...It was some guy driving be side our bus pleasuring himself to one of the girls he was intensly staring at on our bus! You think he was embarressed to have all those student laughing and pointing and taking pics of it with there cell phones...NO!...this man begin do it even harder!
NO LIE...this is true! The bus driver speed up to pass the guy after hearing all the yelling a screaming at the back of the bus, and the guy was trying to catch up w/ the bus! But finally his exit came up and he was off the freeway and on to terrorize someone else with that. At that point it was getting dark and as we arrived to to met up w/ some of the work coordinators and have orientation it was night time.
The destruction there was just as you see on TV. No work was to be done until the next morning. We slept in a school (St. Mary's Catholic School). This was one of the places that those that survived the hurricane fleed to.
St. Mary's what can I say about that place...Lots of hippies out side the place playing bongos and singing (all voulunteers)...bathrooms where not very clean...food provided (three meals a day) was good to me...maybe I was just hungry...everyone else complained that it was nasty...humm go figure? Showers where cold...most people there smelled bad...like musty...and fishy and whatnot...One girl had like a chia pet growing under her arm...like I said hippies...sad to say not very many black males there to help in the effort...sad...but it was what I expected....Also there wasn't much light avaliable (no electricity) we used flashlights...when we were thirsty we all we had to drink was hot bottled water...and lastly there was a bad case of scabbies going around (didn't find that out till we left...) [don't get me wrong I'm not complaining I'm just tring to explain the conditions]

alright too much to finish now...but it'll continue later...

The Balance Of Things

College and fun are so hard to manage for me right now. Geez, I just freakin failed a History exam! I hate it. But really it's not hard to balance the two, my priorities are just wacked! I'm so excited about Spring Break, and gettting a new car that I can't concentrat on school. I'm going to help volunteer in New Orleans over my break. I'm sure that's going to be an interesting experience.
Well that's all I've got!
Pretty Boring

Blog Virgin NoLonger

My first time doing a blog. Not really sure how it works. I'm guessing it's like an online diary, right? Right. So Guess I'll have to wait for something interesting to write down (type), then. I have so far an uneventful life. So, ummm, yeah.
